THE MAGIC OF GRACE CELEBRATES

GRACE COLLEGE YEAR 12 RESULTS 2014

Congratulations to Grace College Year 12 students across both campuses on their hard work in their Senior studies and overall pleasing OP results for 2014. Our results are as follows:

  • Grace students have exceeded the State average achievement by over 15% in the OP1-15 range taken across the whole cohort of Year 12 students;
  • 99% of Grace students achieved a qualification: QCE, VET or School-Based Traineeship;
  • 83 % of the 295 students in the cohort were OP-eligible, compared to the State, where less than 55% of students are OP-eligible;
  • OP 1-3: 23 students (9.5% of the OP-eligible cohort, which is 7.8% of the total cohort compared with 5.8% for the State);
  • OP 1-7: 67 students (28% of the OP-eligible cohort, which is 22.7% of the total cohort compared with 17.26% for the State);
  • OP 1-10: 107 students (44 % of the OP-eligible cohort which is 36.27% of the total cohort compared to 27.07% for the State); and
  • OP 1-15: 172 students (71% of the OP-eligible cohort which is 58.3% of the total cohort compared to 43.13% for the State).

Thank you to all teachers for your diligent work with these students. Congratulations also to the students who achieved VET qualifications in addition to, or as an alternative to their OP.

How to Measure a School’s Academic Performance?

It is difficult in the Queensland system to compare schools adequately given that there are significant differences among schools in terms of the number of students who are OP-eligible. That is, it is clearly inappropriate to compare two schools on the basis of the number of OP-eligible students who achieve OP1-15 (for example) where one school has 90% of their students eligible, and another only 50 or 60%.   A fairer measure would be to compare the number of students who gained an OP range (such as OP1-15) against the TOTAL cohort, not just those who were OP-eligible.

Another more appropriate way to assess academic achievement is the percentage of students each year who go to University, according to the Queensland Government Next Step Destination Survey. At Grace each year around 55% of students go to university which is 20% above the average in the Moreton Bay Region.

SECOND HAND BOOKS AND UNIFORMS

Grace College is conscious of the need to provide an efficient process for families to be able to recycle and trade their textbooks, uniforms and other student resources.

We are delighted to inform you of the College’s new initiative to provide parents with the ability to trade second-hand items via the Sustainable School Shop. Results from other schools have been excellent; families have enjoyed a more comprehensive and convenient method of trading these items.  Read more >>
