At Grace Lutheran College Rothwell, we offer a rich variety of Performing Arts programs where students can discover, develop and share their talents in music, drama, dance and technical production.
Here’s what’s on offer at our Rothwell Campus:
Senior Dance Troupe
An audition-based troupe for students in Years 10-12 with weekly rehearsals. This group focuses on advanced training in various styles, with performances at school events and external competitions. Costumes are provided.
Middle School Dance Troupe
An audition-based troupe for Years 7-9 with weekly rehearsals. Students explore Contemporary, Jazz, Musical Theatre, and Liturgical Dance, performing at school events and competitions. Costumes are provided.
Dance Crew
An inclusive dance group open to all students—no auditions required. Weekly rehearsals focus on learning various styles, improving technique, and preparing routines for school performances.
Middle School Drama Production
Open to Years 7-9 students by audition, this biannual production runs in Semester 2 with a structured rehearsal schedule. Students can participate as actors or backstage crew, gaining real-world theatre experience.
Senior School Drama Production
Open to Years 10-12 students by audition, this biannual production runs in Semester 1 with weekly rehearsals. Students take on acting or backstage crew roles, working through a structured rehearsal process to prepare for a polished performance.
Tech Crew
Open to all students, this crew supports productions and events through lighting, sound, and stagecraft. Members gain hands-on experience in technical theatre, working closely with performing arts staff. Students must demonstrate responsibility, teamwork, and commitment to production schedules.
Big Band
An audition-based ensemble for students who are also members of a primary instrumental ensemble. This group extends students' ensemble abilities, focusing on jazz and popular music. Weekly rehearsals develop skills in trumpet, trombone, saxophone, piano, guitar, bass guitar, and percussion, with opportunities for vocalists as needed. Regular performances and a strong commitment to rehearsals are expected.
Brass Ensemble
An audition-based group for trumpet, french horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba players. Weekly rehearsals focus on ensemble techniques and a diverse repertoire, with regular performance opportunities.
String Ensemble
Open to all string players from Years 7-12. This group provides a foundation for ensemble work, improving musical and performance skills. The repertoire includes movie soundtracks, classical pieces, and contemporary works. Regular rehearsals and performances at school and community events are expected.
Chamber Strings
An audition-based ensemble for advanced string players. This group performs a diverse repertoire, including orchestral transcriptions and traditional works, and competes in competitions and eisteddfods. Regular rehearsals and additional sessions before major performances are required. Private lessons are recommended, and senior members are expected to take lessons unless otherwise approved.
Concert Choir
An open vocal ensemble for all students, fostering a love of choral singing while developing vocal technique. The repertoire includes popular, classical, and film music, with regular performances at school events. Weekly rehearsals are required.
Senior Vocal Group
An audition-based vocal ensemble for senior students, offering a broad repertoire from various genres. Members develop advanced choral skills, including a cappella singing and performance versatility. Regular rehearsals, occasional weekend workshops, and a strong commitment to performances are expected.
Concert Band
An auditioned ensemble for woodwind, brass, percussion, and double bass players. Membership is based on ability rather than age. The band performs at community events, school functions, and competitions. Regular rehearsals and performances are required, and students are encouraged to take private lessons.
Wind Symphony
An audition-based ensemble for advanced wind and percussion players. This group performs at school and community events and is part of the College's touring program. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled before major performances, and private lessons are strongly recommended.
Chamber Percussion
An audition-based percussion ensemble exploring a variety of styles and instrumentation. Students develop technical skills through diverse repertoire, including orchestral and world percussion. Weekly rehearsals and regular performances are expected.
Middle & Senior School Musical
A major biannual production offering opportunities in cast, orchestra, costuming, makeup, backstage crew, and set design. Auditions are required for cast and orchestra, while other roles are open to all students. The musical process is a significant commitment, with a structured rehearsal schedule.
Extension Ensembles
These ensembles provide additional performance opportunities for students already participating in a primary ensemble. Membership is determined through consultation with ensemble directors and requires commitment to both groups.
