Rothwell Workshops 2021

The Bright Minds Festival is your premier activity for Grades 1 to 6 students in Brisbane. The festival seeks to 'engage-inspire-unite' bright young learners, empowering them to become tomorrow's leaders, innovators and change-makers. 

Workshops include: Robotics, Science, Hip Hop Dance, Mathematics, Computer Programming, Floristry,  Sizzling Sport, Creative Writing and more! 

Many of the workshops are free, and bookings are open now!

Fantastic workshops are available to suit different age groups:

  • Junior Workshops: Grades 1 - 3 students
  • Senior Workshops: Grades 4 - 6 students

During the festival, all attendees will participate in:

  • an introductory session
  • a workshop of their choice
  • a closing ceremony with free gift bags

On the day:

Families may book tickets from March 26 2021 up until May 9 2021. Tickets are limited, so be sure to secure your space before they are gone.  

Student registrations will open at 10:40am at the College ChapelParents/guardians are required to sign their child in at this time.

Parents/guardians are to return to the College Chapel at 1:00pm to collect their child. Students must be signed-out by their parent/guardian at that time.
 
The Grace Lutheran College Open Day follows the Bright Minds Festival at 1:00pm. All attendees are welcome to stay on to view the events, performances and displays.
 
Additional information will be sent to all ticket holders prior to the event. You do not need to print your tickets – we will have registrations rolls ready. 

Junior Workshops (Grades 1 - Grade 3)

Amazing Art

FREE Workshop

Students will be guided to develop their drawing skills and create a comical self-portrait. They will then use straws to blow various paint colours to create crazy hair.

This activity will assist students to build their understanding of the elements of art in line, shape, colour and balance in a safe and fun environment. An artistic development workshop not to be missed!

Claymation Animation

$10 Workshop

Do you love technology or creativity? In this fun workshop, participants will create their own short movie using plasticine, objects and a HD camera and specialised computer software to create a masterpiece. 

Participants are asked to bring a USB to take their movie home where you can host a movie premier in your own lounge room.

Junior Hip Hop Dance

FREE Workshop

Step into our Dance Studio and bust out some great moves. 

In this fun workshop, participants will learn a new Hip Hop routine from one of our Dance Teachers. 
Participants are asked to wear suitable clothing and footwear, and to bring a water bottle.

Rocket Science

$5 Workshop

In this awesome outdoor workshop, students will build and launch their own gas powered rocket! Learn about the science of flight as you launch your own rocket across the College oval. Maybe yours will reach the moon!

Participants are asked to bring a hat for this workshop.

Sew a Finger Puppet

FREE Workshop

Join our Lifestyle Technologies team for this fun workshop where participants will create their own fashionable finger puppet out of felt. 

Have fun learning and practicing hand sewing skills by cutting and sewing together your own finger puppet character and styling with your choice of fashionable accessories such as a hat, tie or necklace.

Fantasy Fun

FREE Workshop

Calling all writers! Author and Teacher Melanie Page will walk participants through the process of creating a world in which to set a fantasy story.

This workshop will introduce principles of narrative and ‘world building’ which are critical to every great fantasy story.

Floristry Fun

$5 Workshop

Create a fashionable head piece that is the latest look in this interactive workshop. 

Participants will learn skills to make their own silk flower arrangement that they can wear and take home. Come and learn the skills to make your own cool accessories.

Game Coding & Development

$10 Workshop

Love to game? Need to learn new coding skills? In this workshop participants will have fun learning how to code a retro style arcade platformer game like Super Mario Bros. Test and share your game with other students.

Participants are asked to bring a USB to take their game home to show the family.

Illusions & Maths

FREE Workshop

We are used to believing what we see because we are sure that nobody can trick our eyes. But some pictures and objects can make us see things that aren’t there.

This workshop will not only try to baffle you with illusions but will allow you to make several mathematical illusions so you can amaze your friends and family as well.

Senior Hip Hop Dance

Those who love to dance will love this workshop!

Join our award winning Dance teachers to learn an exciting new Hip Hop routine. Hear about our Ignite Excellence: Dance Development opportunity and meet the team.

FREE Workshop

Calling all mad scientists or students who are keen on all things fascinating. In this workshop, participants will get to dissect an eye ball! (not a human one!).

Learn all about eye anatomy and the science of vision in this cool workshop in one of our Science laboratories.

Sizzling Sport

FREE Workshop

This workshop will see participants enjoying a range of fun fitness challenges. Our Director of Sport and resident Sports Physiologist will be helping you test and measure your core motor skills, agility, balance, coordination, power, reaction time and speed. 

Participants are asked to wear joggers and bring along a water bottle.

Grace Lutheran College is well known nationally and internationally for its Robotics programs with our top students travelling all over the world for competitions.

Come and try a Spike Robotics workshop with us in one of our specialised Laboratories.

Instructions for Parents/Caregivers

Tickets for the Bright Minds Festival workshops are available to purchase from March 26 2021. Tickets will be available until sold out.

Please note, each child must be booked, paid for and registered in a separate transaction so that we have all the medical information allocated to the correct child

On the day, student registrations will open at 10:40am at the College Chapel. Please arrive no later than 10:45am to park and sign in your child. Printed tickets are not required. The Bright Minds Festival staff will have registrations rolls ready.

Parents/guardians are to return to the College Chapel at 1:00pm to collect their child. Students must be signed-out by their parent/guardian at that time. 

The Grace Lutheran College Open Day follows the Bright Minds Festival at 1:00pm and all attendees are welcome to stay on to view the events and displays.

Terms and Conditions

The Bright Minds Festival is the premier activity for Grade 1 to 6 students in Brisbane.

Many Bright Minds Festival workshops are free. Due to this, refunds are not able to be offered.

When booking, it is essential that each child be booked, paid for and registered in a separate transaction so that we have all the medical information allocated to the correct child.

On the day, we request parents/guardians arrive no later than 10:45am to park and register each child. Students must be collected from the College Chapel at 1:00pm. Parent/guardians are required to sign-out their child before leaving.
