HOME ECONOMICS
Home Economics has a unique place in the school curriculum in that it focuses on the well-being of individuals and families in everyday activities. The subject area is broad and allows students many opportunities to develop analytical, practical, management skills.
Year 8 students experience introductory units in both Food and Textile Studies. The students participate in hands-on activities to produce articles to utilise and consume as well as apply theory relevant to their everyday experiences.
In years 9 and 10 students have the opportunity to undertake an elective subject choosing from Food Studies or Textile and Food Studies. Within theses electives students undertake topics such as GOOGA Gourmet, Festive Foods, Focus on Hospitality and Vital Vegetables.
In years 11 and 12 students can choose from 3 elective subjects offered through by the Home Economics Department.
Home Economics – is a QSA subject that offers students a variety of learning and assessment and includes topics such as Textiles and Culture, Contemporary Issues in Food and Nutrition for Adolescents and Individuals and Families in their Living Environments.
 Early Childhood – Students who choose this subject will be enrolled in Certificate III in Children’s Services through the Open Learning Institute of TAFE. The students will undertake work placement organised through the school and assessed by TAFE assessors whilst having qualified teachers as mentors over the 2 years.
 Hospitality – is a QSA registered subject. Students who undertake this subject are involved in many Hospitality functions within the College held throughout the year. The students learn practical skills in the “Green Tree Frog” restaurant and the semi-commercial kitchen available to them. The department is offering students Strand B – Vocational Learning from the Hospitality Subject Area Specification. Students also have the opportunity to attend a residential program offered at a large hospitality establishment. Back to Programs
