MATHEMATICS
Mathematics is one of the largest departments at GLC. It is supported by an enthusiastic staff who are always eager to hear your ideas.
In the junior school the department is currently embracing the new ideas of the 2005 P to 10 syllabus. This includes:
- student profiles
- mathematics identified in strands
- promotion of communication in mathematics
- incorporating technology
- levels of mathematics tailored to student ability
In 2003 the College introduced Investigative Mathematics as an elective subject in Years 9 and 10. These classes have resulted in expanding numbers in Maths C. Assessment, both formative and summative, occurs throughout the year. Block exams of 1½ hours in length occur at the end of each semester.

In the senior school, Grace is unique in that mathematics is compulsory. The school offers Mathematics A and Mathematics B with Maths C an elective subject. In doing so the College has produced some fine mathematicians including State representatives at the National Summer School for Mathematics.
There are many opportunities to exercise their mathematical talents. The College invites students to participate in local, State and Australia wide competitions, including:
- Murumba Downs Problem Solving a team event
- QAMT Problem Solving for Individuals
- Australian Maths Competition in which all grades participate.
We are currently experimenting with our Web Site and hope students will avail themselves of the revision papers provided. Back to Programs |
